Mario Vazquez Rana, Chairman of the International Olympic Association, said in Beijing on the 9th that 205 countries and regions will participate in the Beijing Olympic Games. This means that the most countries and regions will be participating in the Beijing Olympic Games than in any other Olympic Games in history of the Olympiad.
The 16th session of the General Assembly of the International Olympic Association ended on the 9th. At a news conference, Rana said that an important topic in this session of the General Assembly is how to successfully host the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. During the meeting, all countries and regions expressed their support for the IOC and re-affirmed their participation in the Beijing Olympic Games.
The International Olympic Association consists of 205 IOC countries and regions, and is the second most powerful international sports organization following the International Olympic Committee.
